Obstetrics is the branch of medicine that specialises in providing care during pregnancy, labour, birth and post-natal care after delivery.
An Obstetrician is a specially qualified doctor that can diagnose and treat complications in pregnancy and perform surgical procedures relating to labour and delivery. The difference between an Obstetrician and a Gynaecologist is that Gynaecologists are only concerned with problems relating to the reproductive system and are not involved in pregnancy or birth. Sometimes the specialities are combined and called Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
